Beyond wellness care and vaccines, dental care may be the most important treatment that you will seek for your pet. The systemic effects of bacteria from the mouth are extraordinary and severe. The best way to combat this problem is to combine regular home care with annual dental cleanings through your veterinarian.

That may be true. Many smaller breeds are prone to greater build up of tarter and bacteria in the mouth. If not addressed regularly, gum disease and tooth erosion will result. A veterinarian can give you much more information on the care and frequency of care for your pets' mouth.
